
Biography
Our Artistic Director, Joey Madia, has 20 years of experience in the arts. He is an artist-educator who has appeared in and/or directed nearly 80 productions throughout the United States. An award-winning writer, Joey writes in a wide variety of genres and styles. His 10 plays for young audiences have been produced in 15 states and Nova Scotia and his series of books on using theatre in the classroom are helping teachers redefine learning. He is Artistic Director/Resident Playwright of New Mystics Theatre Company and is Resident Playwright for Youth Stages, LLC. His poetry, essays, and short stories have been widely published and earned him several awards. Joey has taught classes in theatre and creative writing for dozens of school and community organizations and has been a mentor to young artists from coast to coast. He has been an invited keynote speaker at several schools and has appeared on national conference panels in the arts. He is the founding editor of NewMystics.com, an art and literary site started in 2002 as a gathering place for cutting edge artists and writers. His first novel, Jester-Knight, was published in January 2009.
In addition to his work in the studio and classroom, Joey has held several high-level management positions with arts centers, theatre organizations, and an arts education publisher.
